The Black Lives Matter movement, first established in 2013, has changed and impacted many lives. The movement became very well known last year, in 2020, after the death of George Floyd.
Raising endless awareness to this anti-racism movement has saved somewhere around 100 black lives. This statistic comes from a research paper written by Travis Campbell. He is part of the many students from The University of Massachusetts Amherst. There were multiple peaceful protests in that city and many civilians have noticed a difference in their own safety, as they feel much safer where they live.
"All of the blood, sweat, and tear gas Americans have endured has helped make people safer." - GOOD articles
Campbell's data shows that in the cities that held a large number of protests, the number of police killings declined. The study shows that there is a massive drop in police brutality and the drop is growing over time, the number of killings continue to drop lower when protests are large or frequent. Therefore, if BLM protests continue, even more lives will be saved.
