Life can get quite stressful at times and it's difficult to stay on task or just enjoy things when there are constant feelings and thoughts that are extremely overwhelming. Mental illnesses can hold you back and stop you from doing the things you love, it can be restricting and boring when you are stuck in the personal boundaries that your own brain creates. Here are some tricks and tips that I use when I am feeling overwhelmed with my own mental health :)
Take care of yourself
It might feel weird to start putting yourself first but it helps so much with your mental health as a whole. Eat well, exercise, sleep the right amount, take a mental health day or just overall give yourself the same care as you would with someone else. I think as humans, we all decide to forget about ourselves, when sometimes all you need is for yourself to care about how you are feeling mentally.
Talk to others
Share how you are feeling with others. This helps to not only get them to help you but also just give you and your mind a break, even only for a second. You can speak to a trusted adult/guardian/ parent, a friend or classmate, teacher, counselor and/or doctor. Reaching out is a great thing to do when you are struggling, it can help massively and improve your mental state.
Avoid unhealthy addictions
Drugs, alcohol, obsessive amounts of food, these are some of the many addictions people have that WILL NOT help with your mental health. These addictions can become extremely harmful to your health. A link to a website that will help with drug addictions: www.au.reachout.com
Take a break
If new events are coming up and are stressing you out, chill out and relax. Make sure to remind yourself that you are safe and that you will be okay when that event occurs. Take a break from social media or stop obsessing over staying up to date, it can seriously affect how you see things and make you stressed.
Make sure to recognize if you need more help!
If problems with your mental health persist and you are finding life extremely difficult, you must make the right choice and get help. You can talk to someone you trust and they can help you reach out to a professional or psychologist.
