*this is an opinion piece*

Journalism is a form of factual writing for newspapers, magazines, news websites or preparing news to be broadcast. It can be as simple as a spare time activity or even a profession. Journalism is a process where many people gather, assess, create and present news and information. There are multiple types of journalism in which people write: investigative, news, reviews, columns and feature writing. A journalist must be open to new ideas and diverse points of views so they can create an accurate piece of writing.

Journalism is extremely important to keep us all connected and aware of what’s going on all around the world. When people are constantly reading or listening to the news, newspapers, radio stations, anything like that, they do not actually understand what happens behind closed doors. Journalists must write, edit and publish posts about almost everything! Journalists go through a lot just to get the information that they send out to everyone, their job is crucial to us. The posts that the journalists make is a way where people from around the world/countries can feel connected and updated on things going on globally. The core of journalism is to be informative and viewed by all. Without journalism people can form opinions from news that might be incorrect or biased.

Learning journalism is also very important. Us as students are learning to write informative pieces without an opinion. Of course it isn’t teaching us to completely silence our opinions, it is simply teaching us to listen to all sides of the one story. Learning journalism this semester has taught me so many things and I’ve learned way more about opinions and how to write a report using very little information. It is also teaching us to listen to all sides equally so others feel they are included and not shut down completely. Although us as humans can be stubborn and not want to listen to the other side, it is important that we do so. Journalism isn’t wanting us to agree or disagree with a “side”, it is making sure that we are informed completely and aren’t left clueless.

Over the years, journalism has changed, not for the good but not for the bad either. It isn’t always as un-opinionated as it was maybe...10 years ago. The good thing is, is that we have created a journalism world that accommodates for all religions, races, genders and sexualities. Where younger audiences can grow up feeling heard and valued in the world. We require journalism to keep this world from dividing and honestly we need it to keep us running. Journalism is extremely important and someday everyone will finally value journalism as it deserves to be valued.
