The right to an abortion in the United States comes from the 1970s Roe V Wade case, this case has recently been overturned, making abortions fully illegal in more than half of the United States. Jane Roe (a fictional name to protect the privacy of Norma McCorvey) initiated a change to the abortion laws after falling pregnant at 22 for the third time while being unmarried and living in texas, where abortions were illegal. After trying and failing(shut down due to authorities) to get an illegal abortion performed by a clinic, she gave birth to a girl who is now named Shelley Lynn Thornton and was put up for adoption as soon as she was born. With this law, abortion was legalised for all people in the United States that needed one; only, recently overturned by the supreme court.
Although many are grateful and joy-filled in result of the laws many others feel as though this is a law against women and their rights as a human being. With this decision, large groups of protesters storm the streets worldwide to fight for abortion rights. On the day of the laws being changed, protesters appeared at the site. The movement was peaceful and there were no arrests or any reason for police to intervene. Law enforcement was at the location because of concerns about domestic violent extremists who may see the large crowds as an opportunity.
A protesting woman tells CNN reporter that "the decision was an outrage".
